I joined in a meet with some members from AusPhotography at Point Arkwright where me met to do a sunrise shoot. However, there were no clouds in the sky so could get anything really stunning in the seascape department, instead I took a few shots of a local fisherman.

After sun-up we decided to go to Buderim Falls were we enjoyed a cooked BBQ breakfast and leisurely walk to the falls.

Roll on the next meet I recon.
Hi all. I thought I’d try out making a historic image in the studio instead of on location. My wife was happy to volunteer for modelling duties and after a change of clothes, looked the part too.
I started setting up the props whilst Kathy got settled and started spinning, no need to waste the time posing. Once organised and positioned to look good in the frame, it was time to light the scene. I used 3 flashes, 1 430 ex II on camera right 1/4 power through a large diffuser, 1 430 ex II on camera left 1/2 power but bounced of the ceiling, this was mainly as background and fill, and the final flash, a 580 ex II on the hotshoe, 1/2 power through a homemade shoebox softbox as a soft main light.
Camera settings were fairly straight forward, f7.1, 1/30s, iso100, taken on a 5D mkII using the 24-70 2.8 lens. I tried a few slower shutter speeds to get a little motion blur in the wheel but they just didn’t appeal to me.

f7.1, 1/30s, iso100, 40mm
Then is was just a matter of posing the subject to set the mood for the shot, after some trial and error positions, mainly with the head and gaze, I settled on this shot, looking at what she was doing.
We are both happy with the result and look forward to making a series of Old time style images. Stay tuned to see what we do next.
Joined the people at IPS for a night on Digital Workflow. This was a brief explanation of the process before leaving for you shoot to the final presentation. The main point coming through was develop a process that suits you and refine it and stick to it, making each step second nature.
Afterwards there was a general question time where one of the members did a brief demo on Lightroom 3 as a simpler way to answer some of the questions posed.
The night was finished with an informal chat at the local fast food outlet.

I have been given the honour of helping a few photographers improve their skills and to that end organised a small meet just to say Hi and find what each member was doing, having issues with, or just to catch up. Though only one member member turned up, we had a great time and quite a few issues resolved ready for extra practice.
